Sewing machine industry seeks research centre

During the annual general body meeting of the Sewing Machine Development Club held on Saturday, members emphasized the necessity of establishing a dedicated research and development center for the sewing machine industry.

The association’s chairman, Dalbir Dhiman, mentioned their preparedness for a cluster program but expressed the lack of allocated land for the initiative. The club’s president, Jagbir Singh Sokhi, announced plans for members to submit proposals in the pre-budget session, advocating for the exemption of excise duty on sewing machine parts.

Satish Dhanda, the vice-chairman of the Medium Scale Industry Board, encouraged industry representatives to consistently upgrade their capabilities to effectively navigate competitive challenges. Inderjit Singh Pradhan, chairman of the Small Scale Industry Board, was also in attendance, assuring members that they would soon meet with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to present and discuss their demands.
